About Microneedling with Dermapen 4:
Dermapen 4 is considered the most advanced microneedling device and is the microneedling device of choice, preferred by medical and clinical doctors.
Dermapen 4 glides over the skin creating millions of fine fractional channels up to 104% faster than other microneedling devices. These channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients deeper into the skin. In turn, our body’s natural response triggers a natural process of repair. The result is an increased production of collagen and elastin, resurfacing, retexturizing and overall skin renewal anywhere on the body.
The Science behind Microneedling:
A dermapen consists of 12 needles which are used to pierce the skin vertically at a fast speed.
The controlled microinjury created by the dermapen 4 microneedling device allows the body to simulate the wound healing process in a controlled manner whereby it generates new healthy collagen and elastin as it heals itself revealing plumper, healthier and firmer skin.
What can I treat with Dermapen Microneedling?
Fine lines and wrinkles: by causing the dermal fibroblasts to wake up and start generating new collagen and elastin which acts as a scaffold keeping your skin tight and plump.
Scarring: A scar is composed of a different type of collagen that is thicker and laid haphazardly usually when the body believes it needs to repair something quickly. Dermapen microneedling over scar tissue stimulates the production of new collagen through controlled microinjuries which allows the fibroblasts time to lay down this new collagen in a structured way.
Stretch Marks: Dermapen microneedling over stretch marks can initiate healing and promote the growth of new skin.
How many treatments are recommended for rejuvenation and acne?
*Superficial treatments maybe recommended at 4 weekly intervals
Rejuvenation*: 3-6 treatments 6-8 weeks apart
Pigmentation: 4-6 treatments 2-4 weeks apart
Pre-procedure for Microneedling:
Time to allow before a Dermapen 4 treatment if you are having other treatments:
2-3 days: Waxing, threading, shaving
1 week: self-tanning/ spray, actives in skincare
2 weeks: Toxins, dissolvable dermal filler, superficial peels, microdermabrasion, IPL, laser hair removal
6 weeks: non-dissolvable dermal filler ie) Radiesse, Sculptra
8 weeks: Medium/deep peel, CO2 and other ablative lasers, radiofrequency
The Microneedling Procedure:
After a consultation to assess your requirements, medical history and eligbility, the clinician will book you in for your dermapen microneedling with complimentary uber pro peel.
Topical numbing cream can be applied upon request. It is always applied if we are treating at higher needle depths.
Before and after photos are always taken at each session to monitor your progress.
Before commencing treatment, your skin is cleansed and the clinician would have already determined the depth of needle penetration and number of courses you will require based on your personal treatment goals ie) if you have significant acne scarring, more sessions will be needed and at a deeper needle depth.
The dermapen glides over your skin at an incredibly fast speed creating 1300 microchannels per second! Most clients describe it as a rubberband being twanged.
Your Dermapen 4 microneedling treatment only uses sterile, single-use consumables throughout the procedure, ensuring complete health and safety.
After the treatment is complete and whilst the puncture holes are still open, if you opt for our free UBER PRO PEEL to boost the results, this is applied for up to 5 minutes before a face mask enriched with copper peptides, hyaluronic acid, pro-vitamin B5 and zinc is applied. Your skin will then be treated with a vitamin repair cream and sunscreen applied before you leave.
Microneedling Side Effects:
Straight after the procedure and during the healing process, minor itching, some flaking, or redness may appear.
There may be some blood and possibly some mild bruising if we are treating at deeper levels for more troublesome skin problems etc.
There is generally no downtime but you may experience facial redness or feel increased heat in your face for 12-48 hours after the treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Application of the Uber Pro Peel may account for some tingling, mild burning and redness during the procedure as well as mild redness and mild flaky skin for 3-5 days after.
Microneedling with Dermapen Results:
Results can sometimes be visible after just 1 session especially with the addition of an UBER PEEL for the treatment of mild skin problems.
Lasting and more significant results will become visible after 3 to 6 treatments (spaced 2-8 weeks apart). The condition of your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments, especially as part of a combination therapy that includes good regular skincare.
Aftercare for Microneedling:
It is important to protect and provide extra special care for your skin for at least 3-4 days following a Dermapen 4 procedure.
Typically, patients experience 36-48 hours of mild to moderate sunburn in appearance and sensation following their treatment.
During the healing process, minor itching, hives, some flaking, or redness may appear. If symptoms persist, please call us.
Do not pick, squeeze or agitate the skin during the recovery period.
Please avoid the following activities for up to 2 days following a Dermapen 4 treatment:
- Direct ultra-violet exposure (sun and solariums/sun beds)
- Intensive cardio, exercise or gymnasium regimens
- Excessively hot showers, bathing, spas or sauna
- Further aesthetic treatments (including, but not limited to, microdermabrasion, laser, intense pulsed light, chemical peels, muscle relaxant injections and dermal fillers)
- Spray or self-tanning
- Swimming in chlorinated pools or in the ocean
- Tattooing (including cosmetic tattooing)
- Please avoid the use of skin care products containing any of the following active resurfacing ingredients for up to 5 days following a Dermapen 4 treatment:
- Mechanical exfoliants (scrubs)
- Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) (including, but not limited to, glycolic, lactic or malic acid)
- Beta hydroxy acid (BHA) including salicylic acid
- Benzoyl peroxide
- Retinoids (including, but not limited to, tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene and retinol)
- Hydroquinone
- Bleaching agents
- Alcohol (including, but not limited to, isopropyl alcohol/de-natured alcohol/rubbing alcohol)
Suitability for Microneedling
If you are experiencing any of the following conditions or concerns, on or around the treatment area, you will need to let your practitioner know prior to treatment:
- Active Psoriasis
- Active Herpes simplex (cold sores)
- Scleroderma
- Open lesions
- Skin cancer
- Undiagnosed/unusual moles
- Active lupus erythematosus
- Active collagen vascular disease
- Acne vulgaris stage IV
- Warts
- Bacterial/fungal infections
- Undiagnosed solar keratosis
- Haemophilia (or other blood clotting disorders) • Active vitiligo
- History of keloid scars
- Also, inform your practitioner if you are (or planning to get) pregnant, have any cosmetic tattooing, have recently experienced any chronic illness or are undergoing major medical care.
