What is PRP for Eyes?
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains a host of highly concentrated growth factors, nutrients, vitamins, electrolytes, hormones and bioactive proteins such as TGF-beta, PDGF-AB, bFGF, IGF, VEGF and EGF, globulins, albumin and fibrinogen all derived from your own blood which is then used naturally by the body for healing, repair and regeneration once injected.
The components of the extracted plasma promote the activation of skin cells by altering the micro environment, improving blood flow to the skin and activating your body’s own stem cells to begin cell division and differentiation. The blood is spun in a centrifuge to extract the plasma which is rich in platelets and growth factors from other components of the blood that inhibit the regeneration process.
As we age, we lose collagen and elastin which play a key role as scaffolds within our skin holding it tight and firm. Our skin cells also start slowing down, essentially becoming more sleepy. What we end up seeing is greater skin skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles and dull skin. The PRP once injected starts signalling to the other cells in the injection area to essentially ‘wake them up’ hence when it is injected in to the delicate skin around the eyes, it stimulates dermal fibroblasts which are the cells that produce collagen and elastin. As it wakes up the fibroblasts, it wakes up a host of other cells that help boost the nutrition and blood flow to the area. When PRP is injected in higher concentrations around the eyes, the combined boost in collagen, elastin and blood vessel growth allows for a greater delivery of oxygen and nutrients to this delicate area which helps with dark circles, puffiness and combating fine lines and wrinkles by tightening the skin.
At Secret Aesthetics we use a specific low molecular weight hyaluronic acid that is compatible with PRP for a unique mix that boosts the efficacy of the results. If collagen and elastin are the scaffolds, hyaluronic acid is the gel-like glue that keeps the scaffolding firmly together! But that’s not all, skin boosters also penetrate deeply throughout the skin as the hyaluronic acid is not cross-linked so once injected, it disperses to enable skin cells to boost their own production of elastin and collagen as well as hold moisture.
The PRP for Eyes Procedure at Secret Aesthetics:
You will begin with a consultation, analysis and evaluation of your medical history and personal expectations by our doctor.
Before and after photos are always taken at each session to monitor progression and response.
Your blood is taken in the same way it would for a blood test: the area is cleaned and a tourniquet applied around your upper arm to increase blood flow to your arm veins. A small needle is inserted to the end of a tube to allow the blood to be collected.
This is then spun in a centrifuge for 5 minutes at a high speed to separate the platelet rich plasma and growth factors from the rest of the components. Once this is complete, the plasma is extracted from the tube in an insulin syringe and injected very superficially around your eyes with a fine insulin needle.
Once the treatment is complete you are able to resume your normal daily activities.
Are there any side effects of PRP for Eyes?
As PRP uses your body’s own cells and nutrients to stimulate a response, side-effects and reactions are practically unheard of.
Swelling, bruising and redness from the needle injection sites are possible.
PRP for Eyes Treatment Results:
To see results with PRP around the eyes, we recommend 4 sessions each 4 weeks apart.
Maintenance treatments are response dependent but on average are every 6-12 months thereafter.
