About PRP for Hair Loss:
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains a host of highly concentrated growth factors, nutrients, vitamins, electrolytes, hormones and bioactive proteins such as TGF-beta, PDGF-AB, bFGF, IGF, VEGF and EGF, globulins, albumin and fibrinogen which are used naturally by the body for healing, repair and regeneration.
The components of the extracted plasma promote growth of the hair follicles by altering the micro environment of the hair follicle and improving blood flow to the hair root, activating your body’s own stem cells to begin cell division and differentiation in to new hair follicles and switching inactive or newly implanted hair follicles to move in to the active growth phase and move out of the shedding phase. The blood is spun in a centrifuge to extract the plasma which is rich in platelets and growth factors from other components of the blood that inhibit the regeneration process. The treatment works on your body’s natural hair cycle which can vary from person to person but usually results are seen within 90 days with continuing improvement for 6 months. PRP has shown notable results in both the strength and quality of hair regrowth in clinical trials.
Biotin is a nutrient that helps our skin cells produce keratin – a key component of hair. Since adding biotin to our PRP treatments, we have seen far superior results hence why we include it as standard now – at the same price!
Our PRP and Biotin treatment is suitable for men and women of all ages and is used to prevent hair loss and improve hair regrowth. It has been used successfully with clinical grade results in people suffering from thinning hair, age-related hair loss, pregnancy and post-partum related hair loss, hormone-related hair loss, male and female pattern baldness, multifactorial hair loss and patches of alopecia. Superior results have also been seen in people combining PRP after a hair transplant procedure.
The PRP Procedure at Secret Aesthetics:
You will begin with a consultation, analysis and evaluation of your medical history and personal expectations by our doctor.
Before and after photos are always taken at each session to monitor progression and response.
Your blood is taken in the same way it would for a blood test: the area is cleaned and a tourniquet is applied around your upper arm to increase blood flow to your arm veins. A small needle is inserted to the end of a tube to allow the blood to be collected.
This is then spun in a centrifuge for 5-10 minutes at a high speed to separate the platelet-rich plasma and growth factors from the rest of the components. Once this is complete, the plasma is extracted from the tube in a syringe and loaded on to our mesogun which is set to a depth and speed based on the doctor’s assessment and the target treatment area. We have chosen to use a mesogun as clients have found it more comfortable allowing us to administer more injections and that too at a standardised controlled depth.
If you would still prefer numbing cream we can apply this upon request.
Once the treatment is complete you are able to resume your normal daily activities.
Are there any side effects of PRP Hair Loss Treatment?
As PRP uses your body’s own cells and nutrients to stimulate a response, side-effects and reactions are practically unheard of.
Swelling, bruising and redness from the needle injection sites are possible. As we use the MP mesogun, clients consider the procedure virtually pain free requiring no anaesthesia. Topical anaesthesia can be applied upon request nonetheless.
Please note, some people notice an initial worsening of hair loss after the first session before improvements with the rest of the course.
PRP Hair Restoration Results:
PRP therapy works with the natural growth cycle of your hair follicles so a course of treatments are always required.
It is not uncommon for hair loss to get worse after the first session before it improves.
3 to 6 sessions each 4 weeks apart are recommended initially. The number will be determined by your clinician and depends on the severity and type of hair loss.
Maintenance treatments are response-dependent but on average are every 6 months thereafter.
