About Tear Trough Filler:
Many individuals, both young and old, struggle with a sunken and fatigued appearance in their under-eye area, which remains apparent despite adequate rest and cosmetic concealing attempts.
At Secret Aesthetics in Birmingham, our director Dr Naqvi has developed a novel 3-In-1 Eye Rejuvenation Tear Trough filler technique to address the most common under-eye complaints, including ‘eyebags,’ ‘hollowness,’ and certain causes of ‘dark circles.’ Through a modified approach to tear trough filler treatment, Dr Naqvi noticed markedly improved results as compared to the standard tear trough filler in his clientele.
There are several contributing factors to periorbital skin changes, including genetic factors, prolapse of the orbital fat, and prominent subcutaneous venous pooling, which are often refractory to dark circle treatment. The tear trough itself refers to the groove that leads from the inner eye corner down the mid-face, often deepening to a true indentation in susceptible individuals due to lifestyle factors and age. Science Behind Our Tear Trough Filler:

Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide glycosaminoglycan found in almost every cell, chiefly concentrated within the extracellular matrix of the skin. Alongside elastin and collagen in the extracellular matrix, HA plays a key role in skin rejuvenation, moisture, and laxity. In the gel form used for clinical-grade skin injections, HA combines with water and swells, making it an effective ‘dermal filler’ for facial volume augmentation, volume loss, wrinkle correction, and modelling of facial contours. Most HA fillers are extracted and stabilised naturally using fermenting bacteria. Different companies have recreated HA in different densities, stabilities, molecular sizes, and concentrations, thus varying their hydrophilic potential, allowing for variable longevity and moldability, making certain reconstitutions more suitable for specific procedures than others.
Please note that we do not use nor recommend calcium hydroxylapatite-based or poly L-lactic acid-based dermal fillers or permanent fillers, as these cannot be reversed.

The Procedure of Tear Trough Filler:

The under eyes and mid-face are cleansed, and topical numbing cream is applied to ensure your comfort during the procedure, which is conducted using a sterile technique. Depending on the key under-eye issues, the clinician may use one or a combination of Secret Aesthetics injection techniques, including microcannula and microdroplet needles, amongst others, to achieve the desired aesthetic result. We use only premium-quality HA fillers combined with a local anaesthetic. The specific filler type will be chosen based on our doctor’s expert recommendation, taking into account your preferences if you have previous experience with fillers. Typically, the procedure lasts no longer than 15 minutes, providing you with a quick and efficient tear trough filler experience.
Side Effects of Tear Trough Filler:
Immediately after the procedure, you may experience itching, redness, tenderness, and swelling in the treated area, which can last up to 72 hours.
Swelling can vary from person to person and may persist for up to 2 weeks in certain cases.
Bruising can develop at injection points, although usually minimal and variable. Some individuals are naturally more prone to bruising and may take longer to heal. We conduct a thorough medical evaluation beforehand to reduce the risk, and we also advise limiting alcohol intake for 48 hours before and after the procedure to aid in recovery.
With eye filler, there is always a risk of swelling, lumps, and the Tyndall Effect.
Tear Trough Filler Results:
Some immediate improvement will be visible with Tear Trough filler, with the full effect and final results taking up to 2 weeks to become apparent.
The results can last on average 6-12 months. Hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body over time, and the rate of breakdown can vary based on an individual’s genetic makeup.
Aftercare for Tear Trough Filler:
To ensure optimal results and a smooth recovery, we recommend the following aftercare steps:
- Refrain from touching or rubbing the treated areas for 12 hours.
- Avoid applying makeup for 12 hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
- Steer clear of direct sun exposure and heat, such as hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms, for 72 hours.
- Swelling by Tear Trough filler is variable from person to person but is common and may last several days before the final result becomes visible. Applying a cold compress to the area can help alleviate swelling
