About VI Chemical Peels:
With so many chemical peels on the market, it can be hard to figure out which one (if any!) may be right for you.
Chemical peels are traditionally associated with a long down-time, pain and a high risk of complications especially in skin of colour.
VI Peels are an award-winning revolutionary range of medical grade medium strength peels that are suitable for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI) with results visible as early as 1 week! These peels give you clinical results without the complications traditionally associated with the stronger peels that could enable these types of results.
PRO-TIP! If you get anti-wrinkle injections, Dr Zoya recommends adding on your anti-wrinkle injections at the same time as doing the peel. The ingredients in this peel numb the skin making the Botox injection virtually pain-free. Results from both the peel and neurotoxins take the same amount of time to kick in. By working synergistically on skin texture and fine lines and wrinkles – the combined end results are far superior.
There are 5 different ingredients in all the peels at varying strengths. The strength and dosage of each ingredient is what varies between the different peel types to allow for more individualised, targeted treatments:
- TCA: Collagen stimulator, Exfoliator
- Retin-A: Collagen and Elastin Stimulation, Targets Hyperpigmentation
- Ascorbic Acid: Anti-Oxidant, Targets Hyperpigmentation, Collagen Stimulator
- Salicylic Acid: Pore-Refining, Decongesting Anti-Acne Agent
- Phenol: Exfoliant and Numbing Agent
There are additional ingredients in the stronger peels such as Benzoyl Peroxide, Hydroquinone and Hydrocortisone. This unique blend means VI Peels do not require prior skin conditioning or the painkillers normally used with other chemical peels.
The Chemical Peel Procedure:
We recommend all clients stop any activities for 1 week prior to and post-procedure.
There are multiple peels and the best type will be determined on the day of your consultation. Depending on your skin concern, the doctor may prescribe a bespoke regime of peels alongside other treatment modalities including microneedling and medical-grade skincare.
On the day of treatment, your skin will be cleansed and a sterile technique used to apply 4-6 layers of the peel in the targeted area.
The peel does not burn and is not painful Some patients might experience a stinging sensation or slight discomfort but this usually passes within seconds.
Your skin will look slightly tan or bronzed immediately after the peel due to the retinoic acid. This fades within the hour. Over the next few days, your skin will feel tighter and pigmented areas may appear slightly darker. Skin peeling usually begins on day three. It’s a light fluffy peeling and it is easily controlled with moisturiser. In some cases, the peel is virtually invisible. Patients on Retin-A may experience heavier peeling. Usually, by day 6-7 you will be completely done peeling and your skin will look amazing.
Chemical Peel Side Effects:
This is a medical-grade medium-depth chemical peel only done by a Doctor
It is expected as part of the results process to notice peeling and redness. The peel itself is not considered painful. There may be mild discomfort but usually it is described as a tingling, warm feeling.
Results from VI Chemical Peels:
Peeling and redness will be most obvious at day 2.
Full results are seen 1-2 weeks after treatment. Some people will see their desired result with just 1 session but most individuals require a course.
If you already have a good skincare regime with regular exfoliation, you may not notice much peeling, this does not mean you will not see results as the ingredients will still act on the dermis and epidermis to allow for cellular change.
Aftercare for Chemical Peels:
You may resume normal activities straight after the peel however we strongly advise sun exposure to be minimised especially during the peeling process.

Wait at least 1 week before reintroducing actives in to your skincare. Do not use hot water for 3-5 days
Use a gentle moisturiser 3-5 times a day
It is paramount that you practice good skincare especially with regards to sunscreen after any chemical peel. A peel is exposing new skin over a very short period of time. This newly exposed skin is very delicate and needs to be protected with a good quality broad-spectrum SPF every 2 hours.
Chemical peels are not a be-all and end-all cure for skin conditions. If good skin care is not practiced, the end results will be adversely affected. It is important to strictly follow the pre and post-care instructions given to you by your clinician.
